OLDER WORKS (2016-2018)

These few projects are part of my journey of becoming a better designer. I decided to have a page that dedicates and showcases my college and even GCSE work as they hold a special meaning to me and show my development of skills in design over the years.

These projects may be a little rough around the edges, dating to how old they are and how fairly early of a designer I was. However, looking back and seeing what I could achieve then and how I continue to grow in present day are all important milestones.

ENCHANTED OASIS (2016)
EGYPTIAN EXPLORERS (2018)

This project was all about gathering cultural research to create a brand that would produce products based on its architecture, fashion and symbolism, which required a trip to The British Museum. This destination provided a broad range of visual context from many different cultures. I decided to have my brand be a company that manufactures children's activity packs within different historical eras.

For this specific pack, I took heavy inspiration from ancient Egyptian culture. I used pillars, pyramids and earthy sand colours to portray the culture accordingly, whilst also being visually stimulating for children (providing a cartoony overhaul). This pack would include a fake book that is openable to provide and store colouring pencils, an activity booklet, stickers and a poster.

FUTURISTA (2018)

This brief was all about creating a brand identity based from observing the world around us. This could range from the architecture of skyscrapers or the structure of different abstract objects. For primary research, I travelled to a couple museums in Oxford; Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers. From these trips, I photographed and analysed futuristic looking items I thought were fascinating.

My brand, Futurista, was based around futuristic stylised buildings and objects. These objects were useful to study as I referenced their different shapes and sizes and used them to create a logo and theme for my brand. The brand resulted in becoming a retro-futuristic diner that offered space-themed foods and vintage merchandise.

This was the first project that got me into the world of graphic design. The brief for this project was to understand how manufacturing products work. The brief allowed us to pick between creating a children's board game or an activity pack. I chose to create an aquatic-based board game that educated children on the ocean depths through fun question cards and fun poppy illustrations.

I asked my peers to provide me with detailed feedback, which inevitably shaped my final theme and design idea.
Once my designs were complete, the manufacturing part came into place. I learned how to use a vacuum machine to create a board game tray. I used C.A.D (Computer Aided Design) to 3D print plastic diamond shaped player pieces. The design process and learning new techniques made the project feel very complete.
